Peaches are sweet, fragrant summer fruits that babies often love for their juicy flavor and soft, tender texture when ripe or cooked. They provide vitamin C, vitamin A, and fibre, supporting immunity, vision, and digestive health. When fully ripe or lightly cooked, peaches become easy for babies to mash and explore.
Nutritional Information
Peaches contain antioxidants such as beta-carotene and polyphenols, plus potassium and small amounts of vitamin E. Choose peaches that are fragrant and slightly soft when pressed; these will be easier for babies to digest. Fresh or frozen peaches are ideal; tinned peaches can be used if packed in water or juice (not syrup) and rinsed before serving.
How to serve peaches by age
Baby-Led Weaning
- Finger food: Offer large, soft wedges or long strips; they should squish easily between fingers.
- Grip tips: Leave some peel on for grip, but remove before baby chews if the peel is too firm.
Safety: Avoid small cubes and under-ripe firm peaches.
6–8 months
- Purée: Steam peeled peach slices until very soft, then blend or mash.
9–11 months
- Serve soft, ripe half-moons or small tender chunks as chewing improves.
- Mix diced peach into porridge, yogurt, millet pap, or mashed banana.
- Grated fresh peach can be offered for added texture.
12+ months
- Offer pincer-grip pieces of ripe raw peach or include sliced peach in fruit salads, smoothies, or pancakes.
- Lightly grill or stew peach slices for added softness and variety.
- Encourage toddlers to spear pieces with a fork for coordination practice.
Choking hazards & safety
- Firm or under-ripe peach is a major choking hazard because it can be hard and difficult to mash.
- NEVER offer firm raw peach slices or cubes to babies.
- ALWAYS ensure peach should squish easily between fingers before serving. Avoid round, grape-sized chunks for younger babies, and remove the pit completely.
- Keep baby upright and always supervise during meals.
